Each affiliate needs
to attract the best and the brightest members to represent them at the
bargaining table and in the capitol, with the media and at public
events. Peace Officers of California (P.O.C.) gives you your share of release time (State paid
time to complete union business) and guarantees your affiliate
dues
(whatever amount you approve to give your affiliate, by a general
affiliate membership vote). That way you can do union business
on State time and attract the best and the brightest to represent your
affiliate, who may not have time to serve otherwise.
You may not realize
it, but CAUSE / CSLEA has numerous State employees on full “release
time”, which is time YOU NEED to make your case at the State capitol and
to interact with the media and public. CAUSE / CSLEA’s most recent
claim to fame is their improper use of
$2.4 million in State release
time – wonder where your pay raise went? Do you really feel like you
are being adequately represented by the CAUSE / CSLEA?
We propose that we
divide the release time amongst the affiliates and allow the affiliate
board to use them to conduct affiliate and
P.O.C. business as well as to
send representatives to the State capitol to talk about their issues,
alongside
P.O.C. lobbyists who will help them navigate the system. All
on State paid time!
All of us in our
affiliates know who they would like to have represent them with the
union at the bargaining table. Now, nobody has an excuse not to
participate – lets put our best food forward and show off the best in
every class.
15-years of the same
leadership and the pay disparity between bargaining unit 7 members and
other Peace Officers has gotten worse. Whom do you think the Governor
or the Legislature is more likely to give a pay increase in tough times
–
P.O.C.
CAUSE / CSLEA?
P.O.C. guarantees
each affiliate their fair share of release time and
dues
money – if you do not think that is a big deal you should
talk to over 1,000 employees in
“trusteeship” (= expelled) at the union now. They
have had their affiliate dues seized, against the wishes of their
members.
You can be part of
the change to help
State Peace Officers gain pay-parity:
