Peace Officers of California (P.O.C.)
is committed to standardized full POST for all their members, to ensure
equal access to training and equipment that will provide lateral job
opportunities for peace officers, increasing your marketability and the
amount of pay you earn, but foremost to protect the members. At a
minimum, it is bad policy not to have all employees with peace officer
powers to have full POST training, at worse its unsafe for your fellow
employees.
Aside
from advocating for full POST training for all peace officers,
P.O.C.
supports advanced training and cross training opportunities for all
peace officers. Extra training only result in a more professional and
higher compensated work force. Employees gain, the public gains, and
the legislature profits by taking steps to be prepared in the event of
disaster.
The 3,000 members of
P.O.C.
are in the unique position to become the state’s rapid response force
for natural and man made disasters, paid for with federal funding
dollars. Think of all the help we could have been on these fires.
With greater uniformity of base training amongst bargaining unit 22
employees there will also be greater opportunity for lateral and
promotional transfers to more exciting or diverse occupational
possibilities. It will also foster more cooperation with other local,
state, and federal law enforcement employees, which will also contribute
to the general welfare of the membership.
P.O.C.
will work to establish the creation of a
law enforcement liaison
for all law enforcement divisions in the state to coordinate emergency
effort through and respond to general law enforcement issues and help
get everyone to full POST.
Whom do you think the Governor or the Legislature is more likely to give
a pay increase in tough times –
