Think of all the help you could have been in these fires either as
support or actually on the lines. Is there any reason that the state
has not taken advantage of the talent they already have? Fire training
should be an incentive pay opportunity to all peace officers.
Extra training and duties can only result in a more professional and
higher compensated work force. Employees gain, the public gains, and
the legislature profits by taking steps to be prepared in the event of a
disaster. The 3,000 members of Peace Officers of California (P.O.C.)
are in the unique position of being able to pause some of their work in
order to be emergency responders. We can be the
state
rapid response force, responding to natural and manmade disasters
throughout the US, paid for by federal funding dollars. If the state
had staffing levels, where they should be, the number of available
responders would only increase.
With greater cooperation amongst bargaining unit 22 employees there will
also be greater opportunity for lateral and promotional transfers to
more exciting or diverse occupational possibilities. It will also
foster more cooperation with other local, state, and federal law
enforcement employees, which will also contribute to the general welfare
of the membership.
Apart from being an advocate for full Peace Officers Standards &
Training (POST)
for all peace officers as well as for advanced training or
cross-training opportunities,
P.O.C.
will work to establish the creation of a
law enforcement liaison
for all law enforcement divisions in the state to coordinate emergency
effort through and respond to general law enforcement issues.
Whom do you think the Governor or the Legislature is more likely to give
a pay increase in tough times –
P.O.C. CAUSE / CSLEA?

pay-parity:
